Car Colour Versus Car Value
With today's car manufacturers having to compete in such a competitive car industry they have to pull out all the stops to attract the consumer away from the other big makes. With this in mind the consumer is now enjoying the biggest range of choice that they have ever had.
Manufacturers are now offering the consumer additional features such as air conditioning and alloy wheels as standard in contrast to a few years ago when you were charged for all additional extras. With the increase in the range of features available for your car has come the increase in the range of colour variations available on the market. The question is that with all the new colour variations available on the market today, what is the knock on effect of the consumer's choice in colour to the resale value of the car?
All the big sports car manufacturers such as Austin Martin and Lamborghini have been offering the public vast variations in the colours that they can have applied to the vehicle for years. In fact Austin Martin actually has a policy where they can match any colour that the consumer desires and reproduce it onto the new car. The manufacturers who supply cars at a lower price have not quite reached the heights of colour matching but these companies are giving the customer the biggest range of off the shelf colours that have ever been seen within the industry.
The argument is, choice of colour should be made solely on the customer's preference, but it has been proven that some colours can dramatically affect the resale value of the car. For example a solid white ford focus that is a year old can be worth up too £500 less than an identical car finished in silver. With this in mind a customer that changes their car on a regular basis should pay great attention to the colour choice of a vehicle as it could mean a significantly higher loss when the car is up for resale. It should also be noted that due to the fact that different colours are more attractive to different people some colours can be at a greater insurance risk and can increase car insurance premiums. This can become costly when performing car modification via a re-spray, your car insurance premiums can increase significantly.
Maybe next time you look at a new car you should take into account that most people looking to buy a car will disregard a perspective vehicle on colour alone, so maybe that bright yellow focus isn't really the best choice after all.
