Congestion Charges Coming To A City Near You

Plans have been put forward to the transport secretary to widen the scale of congestion charging to 7 local authorities across the West Midlands, including Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry.

Other ideas submitted by those who wish to share in the £18m transport innovation fund set up by Alistair Darling include extending the London congestion area to within the M25. The plans for this area include satellite based charging, toll roads or toll zones.
Additional costs to the motorist could be up to 60p per kilometre in central London, lowering to 10p in outer London.

This will add to the already high costs facing motorists of petrol duty, road tax and mandatory car insurance.Motorists are already faced with having to shop around for cheap fuel and cheap car insurance and may soon have to plan their routes using cheaper roads.
