Tax cheats fall foul of new laws

On Thursday the 12 th of January surrey police officers along side the DVLA launched a day long crackdown on motorist driving without road tax. According to the Surrey Mirror, a local paper in the surrey area, over 76 motorists were caught driving without tax in six hours.

The police and DVLA Inspectors armed with an automatic number plate readers that are linked to the DVLA tax disc renewals database, were able to cherry pick tax disk cheats.

DVLA inspectors told the local newspaper that if your tax disc was out of date, even by one day the driver of the car was open to prosecution and a fine.

This operation was not a one off to launch the campaign; the DVLA is set to continue with these random searches and are going to move right through the UK . So all motorists would be well advised to check when their tax runs out and don't leave it to the last minute.

The DVLA are accepting no excuse for driving without road tax, as reminder letters and warning are sent in the post.

Many of the drivers that were caught on 12 th were asked to pay the tax up font, if they were unable to pay the tax they fined and some cars were even clamped.

Motorist should be advised that this crackdown will continue throughout the year.

Drivers that are prosecuted could face higher insurance premiums. If you are a motorist that finds themselves in the predicament contact, Insureyourmotor.co.uk for a quote.
