Ford to stop motorist from fuelling cars with wrong type of fuel
Ever gone to the petrol station and filled you unleaded car with diesel? If you haven't, trust me it is a very painful and expensive experience.
But help is at, as Ford has developed a new type of fuel filler that will prevent drivers from unintentionally using unleaded fuel in diesel motors.
Motor insurance companies have reported over 1.5 million incidents were motorist have put the wrong type of fuel into their cars. Consequently this has caused many avoidable motor insurance and warranty claims.
On many occasions drivers often realise their mistake before they have moved off but the problem is, if the driver simply actives a door lock the oil burner can start the fuel priming and glow plug warming process. This can cause sever fuel pump and cylinder damage, which can be very costly.
It must highlighted that unleaded petrol vehicles already had preventive measures to stop diesel fuel nozzles fitting in the fuel cap, for the past ten years.
The new concept that ford has come up with is able to detect the nozzle that is being used and if it is the wrong size the cap will stay closed.
Stephen Buro of Ford told Fleet NewsNet "We're keen to make motoring as problem-free as we can by constantly evolving our product design and integrating ideas such as the Easy Fuel Concept."
The new Mondeo is the first car that will be able to take advantage of the new technology; it is due to go on sale at the 2007.
