Police blitz on drink driving

The UK is joining forces with other EU countries in one of the biggest clamp down on drinking driving over the festive period.

The police have set a target of 300,000 motorists that will be stopped across Uk and Europe as part of the crackdown. The initiative, organised by European traffic police network across the 20 European countries is deigned to help reduce the number of deaths on the continent's roads by half.

Senior police officers from participating member states have teamed up so that they can share information on best practice and the most effective ways to deter drivers from getting into their cars after drinking.

Adam Briggs - a representative from TISPOL's UK states; "Every year, more than 40,000 lives are lost on Europe's roads. We are determined to reduce this death toll. "National forces have different ways of operating drink-drive campaigns. In the UK, drivers are tested if they are suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. "In other countries, motorists are pulled over randomly. This operation will be able to provide us with an accurate snapshot of the effectiveness of these different approaches."

We would to remind you not to drink drive over the festive period at it can death, injury or higher insurance premiums.
