Traffic Wardens Costing You Money

A new report this week has brought some disturbing news to the attention of the motoring community. The report written on the back of a parking industry survey has shown that the increase in parking fines may be due to poor training of traffic wardens and improper conduct.

The report suggests that many motorists may be falling foul of tickets issued under the wrong circumstances or wardens not following the correct procedures. Experts believe that trends in parking enforcement over the past few years has seen the annual amount of revenue gained from parking offences double since 1997 to over £1 billion.

The report outlines that the two week training course devised to train new wardens does not prepare staff sufficiently.

The report also outlines incentive schemes that encourage wardens to issue tickets as a major problem. This was outlined by a scheme run by NCP in London to give the warden with the most fines issued a new Vauxhall Corsa worth £12,000 which prompted one warden to issue 1,444 tickets in one month.

The report also suggests that to get competent staff that are looking towards traffic enforcement as a career the average wage of £5.50 per hour should be increased.

Something has to be done because the relationship between wardens and motorists is taking a nose dive. Many motorists are fed up with increased road costs such as road tax and online car insurance but add this to unlawful parking tickets being issued and tempers are at boiling points.
