Cheap motor insurers look forward to history repeating.
Cheap motor insurers, Insureyourmotor.co.uk consider that the time has come to dig out your shiny red body warmers, (or gilets if you're partial to a bit of orienteering) and pull on your drainpipe-proportioned denim wear in the name of all things past. The cheap motor insurers note that a Florida-based business contingent is presently looking to the future with the imminent relaunch of the fabled, and exquisitely gull-winged, DeLorean. If, (as the cheap motor insurers have) you recall, as driven by Michael J Fox. (before he became forgetful) And Patrick Kielty (who we only wish we could erase from our inconvenient memory). A better advert for the appeal of the car, I don't think you'll ever find. Two proper dudes by the separate names of Tony Leradi and Stephen Wynne however are the driving force, according to the cheap motor insurer, behind what could turn out to be something much more than a big boys CDT project. As already they have a two month waiting-list for the $42,500, paintless jalopy that perhaps can't take you back in time, but will get you punched in the mouth nevertheless should you become smug. If it's a history lesson you want, then let cheap motor insurer, Insureyourmotor.co.uk be at your service.
After looking at what other people have written, and re-hashing their courageous journalistic efforts, we find that just 8,900 DMC-12's (their official product code) were built in the latter part of the 1970's and early 80's; at DeLorean's factory in Northern Ireland. An odd place to build something as glamourous you'll agree, until learning that our government somewhat puzzlingly, bankrolled the initiative to the tune of some £90million quid. Well, grants as they officially term the handing over of any large wads of cash that they don't expect a return on at any point in their parliamentary lifetime. And they weren't disappointed on this occasion either, as pretty much straight after blowing the wonga on damn-fool doors, NASA display settings and a few needless marketing opportunities, the company collapsed amid charges of fraud. Now there's two words you don't often find in the same paragraph. Government. And fraud.
John DeLorean was the chap who fortunately lent his (sur) name to the original DMC-12 way back then, as owner/founder of the company I guess that was his prerogative. After all, he knew his onions seeing as formerly he was both Chrysler and GM Motors (flamboyant) Executive. More than that, he was also the man credited with bringing the Pontiac GTO to life. This may have been courtesy of a little grunt via what was directly throbbing away to itself underneath the hood. Or bonnet as they refer to it in Northern Ireland . Which was, ultimately, the Achilles heel of the DeLorean at the end of the day. As its all very well having snazzy exteriors, even snazzier interiors and doors that just wont open in the garage, yet when it's powered by Renault Clio, things take a turn for the worse. A classic case of mutton dressed as lamb, before Jordan came into her own, was the sorry metaphor for the DMC-12, as 130bhp is sub standard in any ones book. A surreal Peagoat-Volvo-Renault partnership were the engineering providers for the initial project.
Anyhow, the aforementioned yanks paid money for the rights to spent-up John's name following his death last year, and are said to be constructing their version (which differs in no way whatsoever from the original) specifically out of a biscuit tin full of left-over spares found lying around in a Belfast lock-up; aswell as having some friends in the business knock up some reproduction parts based on the original blueprint. Which should hold together for short journeys if you're lucky. Moreover, in an equally as ambitious move, they're offering performance upgrades to owners of the first 'new generation' DMC-12's too. So that'll be an engine block from a Laguna then reckon the cheap motor insurers, which will beef things up a little. Anyway, all this nonsense tells us the one thing and one thing alone. If its cheap motor insurance you're after, whether you own a DeLorean or not, get in touch with Insureyourmotor.co.uk, who'll endeavour to cheaply insure your motor regardless of it being past, present of future tense.
